Apple iPhone XS Review
We review the best content creation device for 2018
I wanted to look at a device I use everyday to create content, and a few reasons why I upgraded to the recent iPhone XS.
3 Reasons to Upgrade to the iPhone XS
Dual-Cameras – Consistent and reliable
Upgrading from the iPhone 7, this phone is the first chance I got to play with portrait mode and see how the dual-camera system works. What did carry over however is the fantastic camera system found in the iPhone’s. iPhone supports the usual video modes out of the box, Slow motion, Panorama, Time lapse and 4k, the difference is the footage looks great, locks onto focus fast and does a fantastic job capturing the moment.
Availability of apps and workflows
There’s a lot of applications to play with on the App store. Anything you need to create, there’s probably an app dedicated to doing it really well. I use a range of the built-in iPhone apps for sound recording, trimming video and uploading/sharing files.
In terms of workflow, I’ve been using Final Cut Pro X. One strength in the platform is being able to import images from your Photo library, audio from iTunes or, import directly from an SD card. Plugging my phone into my iMac lets me import videos, voice memos and images straight into my projects.
Resale value of previous device
To help justify the cost of the upgrade, we’ve made a habit of selling our previous generation devices. I’ve got plenty of old Sony, HTC and Android devices around the house because they weren’t worth the price of post. The iPhone has always managed to retain a fair chunk of its original value and through their popularity, there appears to be a lot more uses for an older iPhone than things like my old Windows phone. Which is now essentially a brick that can’t download any apps, sync with email or log into any platforms.
